What is Kontact made of?

Kontact is made of solid brass, which is an alloy of copper and zinc. .

Why brass?

We chose brass for it’s antimicrobial or germ-killing qualities. Laboratory testing has shown that copper and its alloys, brass, and bronze, kill more than 99.9 percent of the bacteria associated with various illnesses. .

After rigorous testing, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency registered alloys of copper and copper as antimicrobial public health materials — the only solid metals to be registered as antimicrobial.

How long does it take for copper & brass to kill germs?

According to a study published by the National Institute of Health bacteria, and viruses are rapidly killed on metallic copper. Some research has shown that copper kills certain viruses upon contact, a process referred to as “contact killing.”

According to copper.org Copper, brass or bronze, begin neutralizing bacteria* immediately. In contrast, stainless steel, aluminum, plastic, and other hard surfaces can harbor pathogens for 4-5 days or longer.

How does copper kill germs?

The science beyond copper’s germ-killing powers is well documented and understood. When a virus or bacteria comes into contact with copper or copper alloy, it is flooded with copper ions, which penetrate microorganisms viruses like bullets and completely destroys them.

Is copper safe for me and the environment?

Yes. According to www.copperalloystewardship.com/, copper is not harmful to people or the environment. It is inherently antimicrobial without the need to add any chemicals, and it is entirely recyclable.

What can Kontact be used for?

Kontact was designed to open doors in public facilities and to engage with publicly-shared interfaces such as touch screens, buttons, etc.

Does Kontact work on touch screens?

Yes. Kontact is designed to work on touch screens, smartphones, and tablets. When used as intended, it will not cause any damage to touch displays.

Does Kontact work on all door handles/knobs?

No. Kontact will not work on some door handles or knobs. It is primarily designed to be used on tubular, bar, or pull-style door handles, which are most common in public facilities.

Is Kontact a substitute for standard infection prevention measures?

No. Kontact is intended to be used as a supplement to standard infection control practices to help slow the spread of illness, but it is not a substitute. Kontact users are responsible for maintaining all current standard infection control practices.

Should I clean my Kontact?

Yes. To ensure your Kontact maintains full antimicrobial power, you must clean it regularly. Regular cleaning will ensure that dirt and residue do not build up, which can block the brass from directly contacting bacteria. Washing will not cause wear or decrease the tool’s antimicrobial qualities.

Will my Kontact patina or tarnish over time?

Yes. Brass naturally patinas over time. This tarnishing effect will not impact its antimicrobial qualities.
